Social Media Myth Busted: Social Influencers Reach is More Important than Engagement

August 28, 2017

When businesses first look into using social influencer marketing for their brands, they often put too much importance on reach/following. But focusing only on the number of followers is not setting yourself up for success in the world of influencer marketing. Let us explain further.

Social Media Myth Busted: Social Influencers Reach is More Important than Engagement

A big following might look good at first, but what good does it do if those followers aren’t engaged? Social Media Today explains, “it’s not how big your following is, it’s how effectively you’re able to engage your audience that makes the biggest difference in your bottom line.” The more followers you have doesn’t necessarily mean more people are listening to you. Think of it this way; it only costs a few bucks to buy followers for your business social profiles. But those followers won’t be organic, they won’t be engaged in your brand, and they will most likely live in another country.

To get the best results for your business through social influencer marketing, look for influencers who are engaged with their audience. These people may have a smaller following, but they are reaching more people. Instead of looking at a potential influencers following, look for how they form an emotional connection with their following, how big their comments section is on each post, and if these people are your ideal customer.
